A New Home, A New Beginning: NHC Hands Over House to Talvern Resident

On Friday, April 11th, 2025, the Saint Lucia National Housing Corporation (NHC) officially handed over the keys to a newly constructed home to Ms. Harnah John, a resident previously occupying land designated for infrastructure development under the Talvern Land Development Project in Babonneau.

The handover ceremony marked a significant milestone in NHC’s ongoing commitment to people-centered development. As part of plans to enhance road access and land utilization in the Talvern area, Ms. John’s former house stood within the path of the new roadway. Recognizing the need for a just and dignified solution, Minister for Housing and Local Government, Honourable Richard Frederick, approved the construction of a new home for Ms. John in another section of the development.

In the presence of local stakeholders, community members, and media representatives, the event highlighted how national development can be both forward-thinking and compassionate.

“We are not just building roads and houses,” said Hon. Richard Frederick. “We are building hope, restoring dignity, and empowering families through thoughtful and inclusive planning.”

The new home, built to modern standards, provides Ms. John with improved living conditions and security. NHC also used the opportunity to showcase the integration of strategic land use, residential planning, and infrastructure development that supports sustainable growth.

Drone footage captured the transition between Ms. John’s old residence and her new home, symbolizing the journey from displacement to opportunity—a journey made possible through effective governance and coordinated action.

The Talvern Land Development Project is part of NHC’s broader mission to provide affordable housing solutions, enhance living standards, and build vibrant communities across Saint Lucia.

This latest handover reflects NHC’s dedication to ensuring that no one is left behind as the country progresses toward a better future.
